Joey Conner Ingley, MSW, IBCLC, Clinical Social Worker and Lactation Consultant

Joey has enjoyed working with pregnant and parenting women for 23 years, and is excited to be part of the clinical care team at the Birth Center of Gainesville. The mother of five, her parenting experiences have profoundly influenced her professional interests. She is passionately committed to promoting and supporting natural birth, breastfeeding, and joyful, responsive parenting.

Joey holds a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism from the University of Florida, and after years as a stay-at-home mom and community volunteer, earned a Master’s degree in Social Work from Florida State University. She was previously employed as a clinical social worker in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Shands at UF and as the Family Support Coordinator with the EMBRACE Project. She is also a member of the faculty at the Florida School of Traditional Midwifery.

Joey was accredited as a La Leche League Leader in 1983, and became the area’s first International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) in 1988. Although Joey was not fortunate enough to receive midwifery care during her own pregnancies and births, she did her best to ensure that her daughter had a more positive birth experience. After attending the beautiful natural birth of her grandson Elijah in 1996, Joey became accredited as a labor doula through Doulas of North America (DONA).

Joey loves meeting with clients and their families, both prenatally and postpartum, to provide additional support and education during the exciting life transition to parenthood. In addition, she is available to help clients access needed services and resources, and to provide more intensive individual counseling as needed. She facilitates the weekly Moms Support group, and is available to assist clients in the establishment and maintenance of breastfeeding. An excellent complement to the holistic care provided by our dedicated midwives, Joey’s services are available free of charge to Birth Center clients.

Jennifer Love, LM, CPM, CBE

Jennifer began assisting at births as an apprentice midwife. She has had two children since then, born at home in January 2004 and June 2006. While taking care of her own children, she has worked with the Birth Center in many capacities, including teaching childbirth education, assisting at births, and working as the front desk receptionist. After taking some time off for the birth of her daughter in 2006, Jennifer was thrilled to resume attending births. Jennifer received her education from the Florida School of Traditional Midwifery. She also received hands on training in a variety of settings, including home, hospital, and birth center deliveries. She spent 10 days working in a high risk maternity hospital in South America, and has trained with many midwives and other health practitioners in Florida. She has also had extensive training in waterbirth, nutrition and breastfeeding. Jennifer loves working as a midwife and assisting families through this wonderful and special time. She draws on her own personal experience as a mother of two in order to better assist the families she serves. Before midwifery, Jennifer worked at an organic farm in Connecticut. She has a strong interest in natural foods and healthy living, and spent much of her childhood working with her mother in her family’s health food store. In addition, Jennifer loves to spend time with her children, and enjoys gardening, camping, swimming, and cooking.

Mattie Gallagher, LM, CPM

Mattie Gallagher, LM, CPM Mattie has been involved in midwifery since 2003, after returning from an anthropology trip to West Africa where she was inspired by an indigenous midwife in Ghana. After receiving her Bachelor's in Medical Anthropology from the University of Florida, she trained at the Florida School of Traditional Midwifery and has precepted in hospitals, birth centers, and homebirth settings. Upon obtaining her midwifery license, she volunteered several months of her time in Central America. She very much looks forward to sharing the incredible journey of pregnancy, birth, and the transition into motherhood with you and your loved ones.
In addition to midwifery, Mattie loves spending time with her husband, enjoys being in nature, and often shocks people when she reveals her family secret... that her mom is the baby of 18 uncomplicated, normal, vaginal deliveries!
