Mary Ann Smith has been a midwife for 30 years. From 1986-2002 she and her husband, Dave, owned the Birth Center of Gainesville. Mary Ann has attended over 1200 births, including several of her 7 grandchildren. She has also been priviledged to assist several mothers that she delivered, deliver their babies. Most of her midwife life has been joyously spent at the Birth Center. Although there have been brief attempts at retirement and hospital midwifery, she is thrilled to be back at the Birth Center of Gainesville, providing not only midwifery care, but Well Woman care and Family Planning. Besides 7 grandchildren Mary Ann and Dave have 4 grown children-3 boys and 1 girl. Mary Ann also enjoys beading jewelry and kayaking in the river and swimming in the springs and chance she can.
